Introduction to the Media Industry

Media and their wide-ranging effects have been around ever since humanity has been conglomerating into tribes and nations and developing methods of communication, i.e. ways of extending the scope of one’s voice beyond hearing range and giving form and substance to one’s thoughts. The Paleolithic cave paintings at Lascaux are no less viable (although less ubiquitous) expressions of media than present TV shows and magazines. But the schematic analysis of media, the recognition and study of its impact on every aspect of social living, is only a few decades old.

Though the Media & Entertainment (M&E) Industry has many segments like film, television, advertising, print media, music etc. – television has witnessed tremendous growth in the last few years. The Television Industry has witnessed a rapid transformation powered by technological advancements, new delivery platforms and increasing diversity in content. Digital technology is advancing at an ever- increasing pace.

Indian Media on a Global Scale

In the last few years, there has been an exceptional growth of Indian media all over the world. The viewers across various segments are increasing; thereby there is an increase in the content development to meet this growing demand. Such as Cartoon Network, Pogo, Disney, Mtv, Colors etc.

Their product range to tap India’s growing US$ 125.9 million licensing and merchandise market. BT’s Media and Broadcast Sector has entered into two new agreements with New Delhi Television (NDTV) to be its global network suppliers. There is a large scope for Film and TV content production in India.
